In a clear disregard for the Clean Water Act, the Supreme Court ruled in a 6-3 decision to allow an Alaskan gold mining operation to dump mine tailings directly into Lower Slate Lake in Alaska. By renaming the waste product "fill", the Army Corp of Engineers under President George W. Bush, issued a permit to Coeur Alaska. The Clean Water Act does allow fill to be dumped into water bodies for "constructive purposes." Using the lake for a tailing pond and killing all fish and aquatic life (which they admit will happen!) is a travesty and is clearly illegal.

Justices Ruth Bader Ginsburg, John Paul Stevens, and David Souter were the only dissenting justices.

Music is from Caspian, Our Breaths in Winter from The Four Trees.
