July 4, 2009 | Ocracoke Village, North Carolina | Vetting explained
Tragedy strikes popular beach this morning while crews were setting up for this evening's firework display on Ocracoke Island, part of North Carolina's Outer Banks.
One confirmed death and at least 2 others critically injured when the transport truck for the fireworks exploded near the marina in the small tourist town. Four medical transport helicopters were called to the island to transport those effected.
A nearby hotel manager and her guests reportedly took cover from what was then believed to be bombs going off.
