Vision of Freedom
July 6, 2009 | New York, New York | Vetting explained
I took this picture of Lady Liberty while standing on the steps of Ellis Island on my first trip to New York. I also traveled there by water. My husband and I worked as a husband and wife team on a private yacht. We brought the boat from Chicago to New York. As we rounded the corner on the Hudson and saw her standing in the harbor it gave me chills. Although my trip was much nicer, I could just imagine those families standing there looking across at our symbol of freedom, excited at the prospects of what was coming and their dreams of freedom and making a life for themselves in their new adopted country. Even with things as bad as they are we still live in THE GREATEST COUNTY IN THE WORLD!

The best iReports get vetted and used on CNN platforms.
The label “Not vetted by CNN” lets you know that this story hasn’t been both checked and cleared by a CNN editor.
iReport stories that have a red "CNN iReport" stamp in the corner have been vetted and
