GRAND BLANC TOWNSHIP, Michigan — The Buick Open will be played for the 45th and final time today because of the financial problems plaguing General Motors, GolfWeek magazine reports.

According to the report, 1999 Buick Open champion Tom Pernice Jr. — a member of the PGA Tour's Player Advisory Council — said the tournament will have a new sponsor and venue next year.

Another blow for Flint's depressing economy. When I drive around Flint, my hometown, I am deeply saddened by the empty GM Plants all over the city. Most of my family has worked for GM, and we used to as kids in high school look forward to a job at one of the many GM plants Flint had to offer. No more! I think it's getting hard to get a job at McDonald's here, now you know that's BAD!

It's sad as the Buick Open is one year older than myself so it has been a huge part on Flint, Michigan's summer festivities. Now even that is gone, sad.

Thanks for the fond memories Tiger!
