It was announced last night that Mexico passed legislation to decriminalize small amounts of marijuana.  Their reason for doing so was to free up resources to go after corrupt politicians, police, and military personnel that are paid off by the drug cartels in exchange for protection.  This is a dramatic change in policy and I think they got it right.  Cudos to Mexico.  Meanwhile we in America are wasting millions on a daily basis to arrest, prosecute, and imprison non-violent marijuana users with no end in sight.  Our policy actually creates crime and criminals where there is none.  We have waged this war on drugs for decades to no avail.  Prohibition never works and it looks like Mexico has realized this fact before us.  Will we continue to lag behind or will we set an example for the rest of the world by decriminalizing or even legalizing?  I think if we legalized marijuana the rest of the world would follow our lead and end the insanity that is marijuana prohibition.
