For our April 26th wedding in the hills of Central PA, we had hoped
to have a casual outdoor ceremony at a quaint log lodge in the
woods. The weather had other plans though, and we knew we'd need to
have our ceremony in the lodge as there was a 90% chance of severe
thunderstorms for that afternoon. And sure enough, the weather
predictions were correct, and it couldn't have stormed any harder
than it did during our ceremony. It made it memorable, though,
complete with thunderclaps at almost too comically timed spots in
our vows and a grand burst of thunder as we were pronounced husband
and wife. About 1/3 of the way through the reception, the power
went out. And stayed out. I thought for sure everyone would pack it
up and go home, I mean - we were in the middle of the woods and it
was pitch black. Within minutes the bridesmaids had lit hundreds of
tea lights (good thing I bought all those) and the band gathered
their acoustic guitars and sat near the fireplace and played by
candle light. It was amazingly perfect . Had we had a dj, this
wouldn't have worked out quite as well, but looking back on this, I
would not change a thing about it. Who needs electricity for a
reception anyway?
