On August 29, 2005, the levees broke in New Orleans flooding eighty percent of the city. Among the worst hit of areas was the Lower 9th Ward in the Eastern part of the city. The neighborhood languished under water for almost a month and it was many more months before many of the residents returned. Some still haven't. Over 1500 people died in the flood. Since then, the survivers have held a memorial march to remember the dead of Katrina.

This video, shot on August 29, 2009, documents this years "second line" which started at the levee breach at Jourdan and Galvez in the Lower 9th Ward and ended at Hunter's Field, a gathering place for Mardis Gras Indians in the middle of the city some six miles or so away. The entire program lasted around four hours, ending with a musical and dance program with a strongly Christian message.
