Camp for Young Burn Survivors
September 1, 2009 | San Diego | Vetting explained
This is a story I did for Fire Department Network News with photographer/editor Brandon Halvorson. FDNNTV.com granted me permission to submit this to CNN I-Report.
The Burn Institute is a non profit in Southern California that has a summer camp for burn survivors called "Camp Beyond the Scars." I met up with the camp at their swim day and there I met 10 year old Marius. He's was badly burned in a house fire in Romania that killed his parents. I did not know his story when I interviewed him and thought he was from America because his English was so good. He inspired me and made me realize why I love reporting. I hope this story inspires you and perhaps we can help him get the surgery he needs to put his big toe on his other hand. He already has one hand completed.

The best iReports get vetted and used on CNN platforms.
The label “Not vetted by CNN” lets you know that this story hasn’t been both checked and cleared by a CNN editor.
iReport stories that have a red "CNN iReport" stamp in the corner have been vetted and
cleared. That means they've been selected and approved by a CNN producer to use on CNN,
