My mother was in Warsaw, September 1, 1939
September 2, 2009 | Warsaw, Poland | Vetting explained
Today is my mothers birthday. On September 1, 1939 she was celebrating her 13th birthday when she heard the Nazi bombers flying over the city of Warsaw. Within weeks she and her family were picked up for distribution to various forced labor camps around Eastern Europe. Somehow she and two of her sisters and mother made it here after the war. This picture is of her standing in downtown Los Angeles in 1949.

The best iReports get vetted and used on CNN platforms.
The label “Not vetted by CNN” lets you know that this story hasn’t been both checked and cleared by a CNN editor.
iReport stories that have a red "CNN iReport" stamp in the corner have been vetted and
