Arsenal iReport: Standard Liege Wrap-Up
September 16, 2009 | Vetting explained
A difficult away game for the gunners, as they showed character and graft to come back from 2 goals down to defeat Standard Liege. Arsenal did not play well for periods in the match, but were able to come away from a difficult situation with a lot of credit, winning the game without many of their star players.
Wenger will be looking to keep a clean sheet when Arsenal take on Olympiacos on the 26th of September, and will look to put 3 more points on the board on his way to the final.
My Man of The Match: Thomas Vermaelen, he has been a rock at the heart of our defense since joining, and looks to be one of the buys of the season.
Moment of the Match: Niklas Bendtner scoring just before half time, the Dane looked strong in a center forwards position, and I hope he gets more oppourtunities to play in his natural role.
Controversy: The goal from Vermaelen looked to be assisted by an offside Alex Song, who handled the ball. Still, we deserved something from this game based on our second half performance.
