Streisand Comes Home
September 26, 2009 | New York, New York | Vetting explained
For the first time since 1961, Barbra Streisand came back to the legendary Village Vanguard and her night club roots to perform a one-night only free show to promote the release of her new jazz flavored album "Love is the Answer'.
Along with dozens of fans, I waited outside the backstage door and finally had a chance to take two very hasty pictures of Streisand being rushed out of the limo and into the club's back entrance door for a sound check.
I also got some photos of Streisand's life-long manager, Marty Erlichman (3), collaborator, producer and co-director Richard Jay Alexander (4) and two fans, one of them with a towel she's carried to over 10 Barbra concerts, the other with a sign begging for one ticket. No such luck.
Two other "big" fans were also there- designer Donna Karan and former First Lady and Secretary of State Hillary Clinton.
The first video clip, number 9, shows Today Show hostess Meredith Vieira arriving at the Vanguard. The second catches Streisand's record producer Tommy LiPuma and Sex and the City star Sarah Jesica Parker making their entrance.
Another very cool day in New York City.
