Quinceañera in ALASKA!
September 29, 2009 | Fairbanks, Alaska | Vetting explained
My Quinceañera was held almost 10 years ago in my isolated home town of Fairbanks, Alaska.
We did our best to combine both Mexican and American traditions, there was a religious ceremony followed by a reception with an attendance of around 400 people, including a former Alaskan senator.
The celebration has definitely changed since my mothers era in Mexico where she only received a cake at home for her 15th birthday. I'd say its a lot more modern, more expensive and a lot like a formal wedding.
Overall it was an incredible experience being able to bring a part of our culture to the frigid north!

The best iReports get vetted and used on CNN platforms.
The label “Not vetted by CNN” lets you know that this story hasn’t been both checked and cleared by a CNN editor.
iReport stories that have a red "CNN iReport" stamp in the corner have been vetted and
cleared. That means they've been selected and approved by a CNN producer to use on CNN,
on air, or on any of CNN's platforms.
