The internet has changed the way, especially in the past few years, how we get our news. I was able to watch the recent Samoan tsunami reach the California coast all the way from the other side of the country via a webcam at Port San Luis Harbor. The NOAA reported in the advisory: "Port San Luis, on Sep 29, 9:07 p.m., 60 cm/24 inches--estimated time minor tsunami will arrive at Port San Luis Harbor, and the expected amplitude, or height, above sea level." The advisory went on to say that wave heights would peak about 90 minutes after the first waves started coming in. I watched the webcam every few minutes and did start to notice, off of the reflection of light from the dock, the water rising and getting choppier. This video, sped up to show the change in wave conditions, from around 9:55 local Pacific Time to 10:07 PST shows a few of the choppier waves coming in. I sped up what was about 12 minutes into 1 minute after cutting out a part where my connection was dropped. NOAA reported the highest amplitude of waves in the harbor to be "29.8cm/0.98Ft" at the end of it all.
