Wildfires at meters of affecting homes in Quito, Ecuador
October 10, 2009 | Quito, Ecuador | Vetting explained
Ecuador has had a few months of very dry weather which has caused hundreds of fires in most of the central Andean region.
This fire is in Quito, the country's capital and just a couple of metres from hitting homes in a suburban residential area
Firefighters have been fighting this blaze for a few hours now. Residents are helping out.
This is one of many of these fires seen on the past few weeks around the Ecuadorean capital. These appear to have been intentionally caused as well as naturally appeared.
Unusual dry season through October is complicating the situation in the city
