The Wieliczka Salt Mine Krakow, Poland was designated a World Heritage Site in 1978 and has remained on that list ever since.   There are over 800 steps if you go down to the bottom of the mine which we did.  The legs hurt for days thereafter.  There is a huge area at the bottom with a chapel and gorgeous chandeliers where couples go today to be married.  We asked if the bride and groom had to go down the 800 steps, but we were told they get to ride a special elevator.   We rode the service elevator back up.  Otherwise, I would still be down in the mine.
