Black Barbie - great for any race!
October 14, 2009 | Providenciales, Jamaica | Vetting explained
I’d like to say congrats to Mattell designer Stacey McBride-Irby, who designed three beautiful black barbies, Grace, Kara & Trichelle.
While Mattell may have waited abit too long in my opinion, it’s better late than never. Many people have criticized the dolls for either having hair that’s too long or too straight, but I have long straight hair that I straightened, but it’s my hair and a part of me.
Black women come in all shades, shapes and varieties that there is just no way to capture everyone with 3 dolls. The dolls are beautiful and I’m sure young girls of any race will enjoy playing them.

The label “Not vetted by CNN” lets you know that this story hasn’t been both checked and cleared by a CNN editor.
iReport stories that have a red "CNN iReport" stamp in the corner have been vetted and
cleared. That means they've been selected and approved by a CNN producer to use on CNN,
