The festive season is upon us and thiis is the perfect time to share one of this country's (South Africa) annual traditional events.

For those who can afford to and still believe in their orginal cultures, boys as young as twelve are taken by familiy elders from their homes and go to a far-away secluded area for the traditional act of circumcision.

The celebrations kick in when they come back as their families can now call them men. Usually, there are two intake periods in one year, in Winter (June) and Summer (December).

There are many different areas or circumcision schools in South Africa and everyone does it thier own way.

Over the years traditional circumcision fell out of favour after the deaths of many young boys due to illegal and untrained 'surgeon' doing the dangerous procedure.
