iReport —
October 15, the Largest Earthquake Drill was held in the History of the United States. 6.8 million people participated in the Great California ShakeOut. At 10:15 am schools, businesses, state, county, fire departments  and many other groups...   practiced "drop, cover, and hold on" int he first statewide earthquake drill.
California is Earthquake country and the word is to be prepared."The Big One" will come and we must take the steps to prepare our homes and know the proper steps for safety.
I was at Exposition Park yesterday,, adjacent to USC. They were holding an event for children and adults at the California Science Center. There was "Yogi  Bear"s Quakey Shakey School House"  and yes it did shake. It simulated a 6.5 earthquake for the kids and thats some shaking!
I spoke with Katie Long who addressed myths and facts about what to do in an earthquake. She recommends preparing for" in home" quakes as well as when you are out, at movies, restaurants etc. Please go to www.ShakeOut.org for explicit instructions.
The real fun, although it was supposed to be scary, was t the Earthquake Simulator  brought in from Ready America. The simulated earthquake could go as high as 7.8 which is the magnitude of the Quake that they are expecting. Brian Lowe educated us on products that would secure our belongings and the importance of having an earthquake preparedness kit.  "You need to be prepared for at least 72 hours after the quake", Brian said. Brian had been there since 4;30 am giving demonstrations. more! He was, helpful, informative and willing to give me two rides. I forgot a step at the end so will need to practice Earthquakes are not something to take lightly, being prepared a necessity. After hearing many times "are you prepared for an earthquake?" I realized today I am not.
