iReport —

I hear the news report and I am certain something has to be wrong with this story.  Perhaps not all of the facts are in or somebody has definitely gotten the details wrong.  It is not possible that a 15 year girl was gang raped by as many as 10 boys, while a large group of people watched.  This cannot happen, I am positive.

Turns out I am wrong.  The details of this horrific story are true.  How can this happen?  The young girl was leaving a homecoming dance and joined a group of people in the alley behind the school.  She had been drinking and becomes intoxicated.  The story is that the gang rape started after she was drunk.  A large group, estimated to be between 10 to 20 people, stand by and watch, doing absolutely nothing.,

Arrests have been made and now the debate starts as to the charges.  The juveniles arrested will probably be charged as adults.  What about the people who stood by and did nothing?  Should they have any accountability in this horrendous crime?  Attorneys and talking heads will soon start posturing and trying to spin details of this story as they start to become known.  Now there are reports this could be a gang initiation.  What next?

This is such a sad story.  If this was a made for TV movie, it would seem improbable.  I have trouble wrapping my head around this.  Why didn't someone try to get the young girl home after they saw her intoxicated state?  I have so many questions and I am terrified of the answers.

I really hoped this story was a mistake  We all need to look after each other and make sure something like this can never happen again.
