Through the Plexiglass, Darkly - The Polaroid Cube
November 1, 2009 | Brick, New Jersey | Vetting explained
The Polaroid cube was a fairly common fixture in many households in the 1960's and 1970's. It is a five-way picture frame, with one photo on top, and one on each side. The photos slid neatly into slots on a black block, then covered with a plexiglass square.
The cube in this story belonged to my grandparents, and sat in the "Florida room" in their home in a retirement community in Ocean County, NJ. It has been with me since my grandmother passed away just over ten years ago.
The photo cube, once a picture frame in my grandparents' house, is now a time capsule, specifically of the year 1970, which heralded the arrival of my baby sister Debra Jean. It was also the year I became a teenager and started high school. And the rest is history.
All of these photos were taken on 1970 (except, of course, the photo of the cube itself, which I took today).
The Photos:

2.) Four Generations: baby sister Deb on Grandma's lap, Mom standing, and Great-Grandma on the rocking chair
