iReport —
A freight train derailed off the tracks in suburban Glenview, Illinois, around 3:00pm on November 1, 2009. A Canadian Pacific Railway train headed northeast on the track derailed, hitting a standing train that was facing southwest causing 17 cars to jump the tracks. Train cars crushed a wooden stairway, fell off the bridge and rail cars came within feet of two permanently mounted liquid propane tanks behind the strip mall, at the base of an embankment.  The strip mall was evacuated as a precautionary measure.  No injuries were reported.
