November 3, 2009 | Hornitos | Vetting explained
Dia de los Muertos "Day of the Dead" takes place in the Historic partial ghost town of Hornitos in the Foothills of the Sierra Nevada Mountains of California in Mariposa county
A candlelight vigil takes place in center of town then makes its way around the street up the hill to St Catherine's Catholic Church (built in 1862)
the church of adobe had many above ground graves
that's date back to early days of the town
the soil was so hard that people were buried above the ground then covered with rocks thus the name Hornitos was given the town by the Mexican gold miners
