What Would Jesus Do?
November 8, 2009 | Vetting explained
It's no secret that the GOP claims to be closer to Jesus than the rest of America. After all it is the fanatic or extremist Jesus that they worship, not the compassionate Jew that healed and fed the poor. GOP Jesus hates poor people and blames the GOP's shortcomings on them. GOP Jesus doesn't want to heal anybody. He wants exclusive health care rights for those with all the money. After all GOP Jesus is a billionaire and loves money more than life itself. This is the fire and brimstone Jesus who's always angry. You know, the Jesus that embraces greed, lies, and insane temper tantrums. The GOP Jesus actually hates people with a passion instead of forgiving those who have sinned. If you live in the SE I'm sure you've seen the church signs saying, "God Hates Gays", or "God Hates Democrats". GOP Jesus is not a forgiving Son of God, but a ruthless one of exclusion and hatred. I remember learning about a different Jesus as a kid...
After 2000 years many stories tend to "evolve", generally to express the views of those in power at the time. We saw the success of the Spanish Inquisition, the imprisonment of Galileo by the Pope, the destruction of ancient knowledge via anti-intellectualism, and so on. This wasn't the work of Jesus, this was the work of evil people hiding behind the cross. Jesus doesn't start wars. People claiming his "endorsement" do. GOP Jesus may want to deny health care to millions of Americans, so a few very wealthy people can continue extorting Americans when we need a break the most. GOP Jesus thinks it's great that Aetna jacked my premiums by $100 a month just before the Health Care Debate, because I sure don't need it like the greedy insurance companies do to block reform. The Jesus I learned about would be glad to heal us all for free. He WAS the ancient PUBLIC OPTION!
There is a name for a person or group that claims to be the righteous leader, on the side of God. This person or group uses the credibility of Jesus to enact harm on the world. They deceive us while pretending to be the savior. We all know what that word is. We've all speculated how our opposition fits the mould. I don't buy into such desperate attempts to fuse religious paranoia to politics because any politician that has to use Jesus to convince people of their ideas is OBVIOUSLY LYING. Using Jesus as a gimmick or source of credibility in order to create opportunities for personal gain is not only despicable, but it's sure bet to take the express elevator to Hell. The GOP keeps using Jesus' endorsement for their crazy agenda full of greed, gluttony, lust, wrath, envy, and pride. The only deadly sin they oppose rather than embrace is sloth. Full of contradiction and rage, how can you possibly believe Jesus is on the side of those filled with hate even on a good day? What would Jesus really do?
