How Hollywood changed on October 27th 2009 - This Is It Launch Day @ The Conga Room, LA Live
November 9, 2009 | Los Angeles, California | Vetting explained
Video - (1 minute) VJ 2Greendollars performing his 1 hour presentation of Michael Jacksons Discography, neatly mixed into a medley @ Conga Room, LA Live, the night of the launch of Michael Jacksons "This Is It" Movie. Got an encore as well.
On October 27th, Hollywood Changed Forever.
There was no red carpet outside Manns Chinese Theatre.
No celebrities to be found at a Major Movie Launch in Downtown Hollywood.
Just a lot of blown leaves on the Avenue of the Stars generated from the high winds on the day.
Whilst some cinemas on the "This Is It" Launch were blacked out due to power outages, LA Live was buzzing with what would be the first - and by no means the last - major blockbuster movie launch.
Along the way, history was made. It was the first time a Hollywood movie would premiere to its A-Lister Celebrities outside of Hollywood, and instead the red carpet was held in downtown LA, where the curtain was raised on the worlds most technologically advanced movie theaters.
And, in a little place called "The Conga Room" in the heart of the LA Live campus, more history was being made. Australian VJ and noted inventor of new technology Anthony Chidiac (VJ Name "2GreenDollars") http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Anthony_Chidiac premiered a medley of Michael Jacksons hits in a jaw dropping one hour presentation of audio and video in high definition, on the big screen, in stunning quality and clarity.
Even the most seasoned Jackson followers were amazed. Live and in real-time, the guy actually remade Jackson Songs meant for the ballad bin, repackaged and refreshed them to fit into the dance genre and it still sounded like a Michael Jackson track, looked like a Jackson track, and felt like it was re-sung by Jackson to suit the new genre, only it wasnt. It was the original Michael Jackson, mixed live to suit another genre, through some amazing new technology that only Chidiac could do through pushing the envelope, just as he did with Bill Gates in 2001 and Michael Jackson in 1992, at that time record companies laughed him off when he proclaimed that in the future we will record to DVD's and Hard Disks and keep all music and video in the digital domain.
Chidiacs Manager has submitted the "Conga Room Mix" performed that night to a sellout crowd to both John Branca, the administrator of Jacksons Estate, and Epic Records, Michael Jacksons label from the 90's to today. Chidiac is hopeful that this time around, Record Companies now understand the impact of such technology and can exploit its popularity through the little bit of history made at Conga Room and the day that changed it for Hollywood.
On October 27th 2009, there wasn't just one big thing that happened at LA Live, in the future, it will be noted as the day that technology took a quantum leap forward in entertainment history, and for the next decade consumers will see a new golden era of audio and video production emerge out of the inspiraton provided at LA Live and Conga Room on this Day.
What does it mean for Manns Chinese Theater? Maybe it can become a world famous chinese restaurant and museum....or maybe a giant laundromat.
What does it mean for red carpet? Well, LA Live needs real red carpet - from celebrity reports the red vinyl flooring was not so soft on the feet as the plush, red fluffy stuff. <
