Thoughts on Breast Cancer Recommendation Reversal
November 17, 2009 | Fullerton, California | Vetting explained
The US Dept of Health and Human Services Preventive Services Task Force just came out with new recommendations for screening for breast cancer. They say women should start screening at 50 yrs old not 40 as previously recommended. It also says women between 50 and 74 should have mammograms once every 2 yrs instead of once a year. Now this is the real kicker, they said women should not do self examinations and that they should not even be taught how to do them! EXCUSE ME!! Self examination saved my Mother's life!!
This report is to warn women of ALL ages, check yourself while in the shower with soapy hands, if you feel a lump, have it checked out immediatley. I know this is not the way we were taught to do self examinations, but it works and it's easy, you can do it every day, and it can save your life!!
I am amazed and a bit shocked that this federal agency would change their position on screening for breast cancer.
Here is a link to my previous report and how self examination saved my Mother's life.
