iReport —

For the past four months, Utah Valley University Custodial department has received hundreds of applicants for three open positions.

A custodial supervisor at UVU has waded through countless applications.  People of all kinds have applied for the once neglected position of UVU Custodian.  The economy has taken its toll as former doctors, lawyers and other professionals have applied for jobs usually occupied by college students.

The supervisor has commmented that he would like hire all of the doctors and lawyers, but they don't have the qualifications.  Unfortunately, that's how it is for most of America.

Some people lack the skills to get a job in labor intensive occupations.  Many of these doctors and laywers have never professionally cleaned restrooms or offices.  Their lack of custodial experience gives way for younger people to step up and take what few jobs are available - the truth is that they have more labor experience than their elder colleagues.
