Why does an Atheist like me care about religion?
November 24, 2009 | Kolding, Denmark | Vetting explained
It's not so much about caring for religion, but freedom. Freedom is more important to me than faith. It's about having a critical view on religion. Religious beliefs contain unsupported evidence.
At the same time religion discriminates against women, minorities, sexual minorities and I can't ignore it.
There are millions of people who have been killed in the name of religion. Catholics are prohibiting people to use condoms, especially in countries, where AIDS is on the rise.
Televangelists are the last people to ask for public money. Especially when they have wonderful villas, expensive jets, cool cars and lots of capitals while their adherents struggle to make ends meet.
I have something against religion, because I am suspicious. Religion promotes a cynical indoctrination and it has an arrogant way of being self-righteous.
If religion got its way all the time, it would control every single aspect of my life and all our societies would turn into theocracies.
It would of imposed some kind of a "morality" on me by telling me what to think, do, dress, eat, how to date, when to have sex etc.
Religion would also tell me who to hurt, kill and destroy, someone else has another religion.
When religion gets power, the result is always oppression, guilt, shame, hypocrisy etc.
Religion is self-contradicted because its justifies horrors and it also imposes me to love my enemies, forgive your trespasses, turn the other cheek, allow myself to be used and taken advantage of.
The god of the three Monotheists religions is very sadistic and he has committed lots of genocides and crimes against humanity. Read one of the "holy" books. You will be surprised.
If the Bible and other religious books are words of a merciful god, then I can say that they are suicidal notes.
That's why I care about religion!
