iReport —

The project initially was titled "NYC Underground Musicians". Unbeknownst to me an entire gamut of buskers were in wait. I spent seven days and nights blindly riding the subway trains through the veins of NYC searching and listening for artist of every genre. I was amazed at the talent I discovered. Simply stunned at time.

"In conjunction with a massive rehabilitation program launched in the 1980s, MTA Arts for Transit was created to oversee the selection of artist and the installation of permanent artworks in subway and commuter rail sections. The program encompasses Music Under New York (MUNY), a Transit Poster Program, and the Lightbox Project, a series of photography exhibits".

The official MUNY performers have a MTA poster on the wall with their names printed boldly on it and are scheduled to be in certain locations at certain times. The unofficial performers are free to perform without permit as long as traffic flow is not hindered.
