iReport —

Friday, June 27th, 6:45am - I just got the call that the Winfield Levee has breached and that evacuations are now underway.

Let's hope everyone got out.....

All these sand bags and 100,000's of others couldn't do the trick. I just feel sick....

UPDATE 11:30AM cdt:

"National Guard Col. Michele Melton said plans call for a four-foot-tall sandbag levee to be hurriedly built around the residential area.

Melton believes the makeshift levee can be constructed quickly, probably about 300 feet in length per hour. But she wasn't immediately certain how long the levee needs to be.

A spokesman for the Lincoln County emergency management agency said 30,000 sandbags are already available and volunteers will begin filling even more.

The break happened far enough away from the residential area that the water wasn't expected to get there for several hours."

UPDATE 1:30PM cdt:

"The National Guard plans to build a four-foot sandbag barrier to help protect the residential area.

Sandbagging volunteers are needed in Lincoln County immediately. People who want to help are asked to meet at Winfield High School at 3920 East Highway 47 in Winfield."
