Woman Shovels Grass
February 1, 2010 | Rogers, Arkansas | Vetting explained
I may be the only human on earth who shovels her grass. Yes, I said G-R-A-S-S.
My driveway is just a grass-covered path beside my house. With at least six inches of snow on the driveway (and sometimes eight inches), I have been unable to even get to my car, much less try to push the snow and ice off of it. I did try to get to my car last Friday: snow went up my shin and down into my shoe, and the trunk was frozen shut due to the sleet and freezing rain that fell before the snow began.
Finally, today, the temperatures have been high enough that most of the ice has melted. Therefore, I gathered my courage and set forth on a journey to my shed where I extracated my snow shovel (it was under a lot of stuff...this is Arkansas...who needs an ice shovel?) and proceeded to dig my way up my grass driveway to my car. I then used the snow shovel to dig the snow off my car, and was finally able to get into the trunk where my video cam was waiting...unused during the second big winter storm of 2010.
As long as I was out there, and my shoes, socks and feet were already wet, I decided to continue shoveling a path for my car to the front door and, more importantly, to the garbage cans.
I don't know as I write this that the car will start in the morning. I'm believing it will (gulp). I will worry about that tomorrow.
Right now, I'm going to get my feet dry.
