Video of the June 27th Omaha storm
June 27, 2008 | Omaha, Nebraska | Vetting explained
These three video clips were taken from the back of my townhome around 108th & Maple.
Video one shows some of the rotation in the approaching clouds. I estimate this cell was located above Elkhorn, Nebraska (about 8-10 miles west of my location) at the time. I talked with a friend from work who lives out there after the storm and she mentioned that there was quite a bit of damage to residential property, including one of the large trees in her yard that had fallen.
Video two shows the edge of the gust front as it passes directly overhead. This is only about 5-10 minutes from the time I shot the first video.
Video three shows the rain and hail event. If you look carefully you can see some of the shingles on the roof of the townhomes being riped off.
From what I've been seeing on the news - I was located just on the outside of the worst damage. There was a roof blown off of the 132nd & Maple Super Target store. A friend of mine was in the store at the time. No injuries, however several cars around his had carts either on them or in them. There was also a report of a possible gas leak in the store.
Downtown Omaha also received a fair share of damage, include the Qwest Center where the Olympic trials are to take place and the Summer Arts Festival which draws huge crowds every year into the Old Market\Downtown area.
