This year http://www.wimbledon.org returns in Second Life. Hosted on the island IBM 7.

The idea is to extend the Wimbledon experience but to also be there live in the virtual world to report from behind the scenes. Many events in virtual worlds forget the people element.
The virtual world build takes real world data from centre court at the event in SW19 and re-presents it. Both as a tennis court but also this year with integration to the live website.
Visitors are also able to take Wimbledon home with free t-shirts, hats but also Wimbledon contact lenses.
The Second Life site features as part of the real life technology tour, visiting IBM customers get to see behind the scenes at SW19, visiting the web team to hear about the 266 billion page views we served last year to 8.6 million users.
However the Second Life site also has the very same technology tour in it. Showing how data gets from courtside to web in seconds.
People find it amazing IBM is in virtual worlds(metaverses), but they can come and meet epredator potato at Wimbledon on IBM 7 and find out why from a metaverse evangelist. They can also meet Judge Hocho who built much of this years new features and find out about his day job running the hosting infrastructure for the IBM sports events.
