there is nothing like getting a call that you missed a doctors appointment to
get you hustling in the morning. first off, i would never have got the call if
not for angela having bought me that tracfone for my birthday.
jill from the docs office calls around 10:30 and says, jim, you missed your
8:30 appointment to have your pins removed. i said i thought it was the 7th. she
said no. i asked her if i can still come in, and she said yes, but i'd have to
wait a bit. so i rushed down there, and had to wait about a half hour. the
doctor made it a point to tell me that taking the pins out will not hurt one
bit. no need to numb the arm, he said just start talking to me and before you
know it, they'll be out, and as quickly as that he held up pin #1 and then pin
#2.
we then went into the cast supply room to pick colors of cast. i wanted
maroon or blue. we decided on red/white/blue for the 4th. then it was off to
x-ray, and they took two pics, and made me copies for my new doc, whoever that
may be. after i got the x-rays back to rob, he said it all looks perfectly
straight and aligned. we went over the x-rays together. he said i have to have
this cast on till no later than the 25th, and then into what the call a cock-up
splint that attaches with Velcro how long i have to wear that is for the next
doc to decide. i now have my elbow back, and a nice looking and patriotic cast.
when i walked out of the exam room, jill handed me a plate of food and a bottle
of water. i went to the hospital cafeteria and ate. then it was off to the post
office and store to chill out till it cooled down a bit. now i'm back at
angela's. while at the hospital and the store, I got some cool comments about my
cast too.
oh, and while i was at the post office, i ran into my mechanic who is going
to look at my car for free on the 5th. he'll charge me for parts if any are
needed, but at least i'll know exactly what is wrong.
next quest is picking up my dentures and travel $!!
i can tell right now, that once i am no longer homeless, i will have to
gradually work my way to home food. some home food now kills my stomach due to
being used to stuff like crackers and nutri-grain bars that can be kept easily
in the car with me. ritz crackers and nutri-grain bars is all i have to eat till
the 9th when i get food stamps again or some money.
i had some swelling come up on top of my hand, so i need to post this and
relax with my arm elevated
peace out and happy 4th to all.
