Power still out in parts of vancouver
July 14, 2008 | Richmond, British Columbia | Vetting explained
Got up to go to work thinking it was a nice day.
Got downtown and found most of the down town core with out power. I thought wow this is strange. Turns out one of BC hydros underground transformer exploded, starting a fire and sending plumes of smoke up through a manhole cover. The power outage affected the east area of downtown bounded by Water Street, Cordova Street, Burrard Street, Nelson Street and Main Street. The fire that melted 14 circuit cables at one of the downtown core's major substations, left many with no power and gave many a day off but to bad for me my companies bulding was just west of the area so i am still at work. i heard on the radio that the police are going to have many extra officers working to prefent crime in the affected area. In 1.5 hrs i get off work so i will try to get photos to add to this story. I am also told many internet home pages around the world are down due to this power outage. Well i am sure they will get it all fixed soon..
