Having written my CNN report 'All a bit Dodgy'
http://www.ireport.com/docs/DOC-47395?ref=feeds%2Foncnn,
regarding my bad experience when I tried to get to a Charity Show
for the Relay for Life cancer fund the other night, I'd like to say
that, although I didn't manage it, lots of others did and they had
a great evening, plus lots of money was raised for the good cause.
I'd spoken to my friend Pinkie Delcon and she said 'I was surprised
how smoothly the show ran, the performers were excellent. Hats off
of Osprey Therien and the gang for delivering a great show. Monet
Fitzgerald's Titanic was a fantastic setting, so elegant that you
could very easily forget where you were and slip back in time. You
missed a real treat Janey'
And miss a treat I did, Monet collected around 115,000
Lindens for the Charity and as this is the first time she has run
the event, she says she plans on collecting even more next year.
Monet is a real business lady and doesn't enter into things
lightly, she has foresight and plans her business strategies well
in advance of any ventures that she is interested in pursuing.
I went back to see Monet last night, not only to express my
apologies for missing her lovely evening (with my SL technical
difficulties!!), but also to see if she had been pleased with the
way things had gone. Monet told me that she had had a lot of fun
creating the evening, a lot of work, but a lot of fun, saying she
had a wonderful team to work with as well. As Monet's real life
internet connection is by satellite, she told me that she had spent
10 hours at an internet café to make sure that everything
went well for the event. Looking round again I could see all the
wonderful settings that she had created, the luxurious dining room
with its round tables and chandeliers where the show had been held.
The whole of her Titanic replica is breathtakingly beautiful.
Monet owns the Waverly Yacht Club. A luxury marina on
mainland SL, connected to 40 sims and the seas of Corsica, also
surrounded by protected water sims. You can enjoy the romantic
island and yacht club. There is dancing, dining, sailing and much
more. Monet told me that the clubhouse is available to rent out for
special occasions like wedding receptions, anniversaries or
birthdays etc.
I asked Monet how she first heard about Second Life and she
told me it was actually on CNN television. She had joined SL with
plans to have somewhere to keep her virtual yacht that she had
bought (designed and built by Blaze Neilsen). She soon realised
that you could not use your yacht in any SL waters and that's when
she decided to buy her first Marina slip. Although her first marina
was beautiful, with pretty waters including little sea creatures
and boats all round, within a week her neighbours had started to
build the area up destroying the beautiful setting. Monet also
needed more prims (primitives, basic blocks for creating objects in
Second Life), to create the marina she had dreamed of. Monet
decided sell the slip for more than she had paid for it, so
business lady Monet was on her way to buying her perfect marina.
After her first experience she rented a sim, but soon
discovered that the waters connected to it were not sailable. Then
after about a month she said she literally stumbled on an island
with protected waters around it attached to the Sea of Corsica,
which has the 40 sailable sims.
Monet has recently expanded her business again by adding
another island with an open space sim as well. You can moor your
yachts at Monet's place as well as renting out the fantastic
Titanic for special occasions.
I asked Monet what she does for fun in SL, apart from running
her business, which I know she loves. She says she likes to go
dancing, although she does not have any emotional attachments in
SL, she does have a mysteriously handsome dance partner called
Robert though, whom I had the pleasure to meet, and Robert is as
elegant as Monet herself. They make a fine couple. Monet works
really hard in SL and provides a beautiful environment for people
who wish to experience style and luxury in the virtual world. Well
done Monet on holding the charity event for 'Relay for Life'
