Water Bomber Crew Sent to Big Sur "Waste of Time"
The Huge Hawaii Mars Water Bomber sent south to Big Sur July 7 was
a "waste of time" according to crew members. The Coulson team that
operates the Hawaii Mars Water Bomber was sent south for nearly a
week before they were called back to the North State. The Motion
Fire was about 8200 acres when they left and near containment. The
fire exploded on Tuesday July 8 and is now 28,300 acres. I was told
that they did not want to leave this fire. They also believe that
had they not left town the fire would have stayed around 8200
acres. "We had this thing" I was told. Down south in the Big Sur
area they only flew for about 4 hours. "We just sat around"
