According to the Hawaii Mars Water Bomber crew their huge plane is far superior to the aircraft used by California Department of Forestry. I would agree. Over a 4 hour period they can put 12 times the payload on a fire because of their large capacity and a much quicker response time. The Water Bomber can reload a 7000 gallon payload from a body of water in 20-30 seconds. The only drawback is that it needs a large body of water to operate from. California could desperately use a fleet of water Bombers to fight wildfires. In the early 1990's the 100,000 acre Fountain fire would have been held to just a few acres if we had water bomber stationed nearby. The fire destroyed some of the most pristine virgin forest left in California. It won't come back in 10 lifetimes. I was there just as it was getting it started. There was plenty of time to get it out with the right equipment. In the future California could save big on fire fighting costs with more of this type aircraft.
