Kids See "Red, White & Blue" NOT "Black and White"
Watching my twins play the ball game called "Gaga" with their
favorite counselors, some Black and some White, at their camp's
parents night, it was obvious that these kids were "color blind."
My children had been raving about various campers and counselors
for a while, but never once mentioned the color of their skin. It
just does not occur to them to bring this up as a factor in
determining how they feel about someone, which is exactly how I had
hope to raised them. After all, they have spent their lives with so
many children with life threatening disabilities of all races,
religions and backgrounds, that they just feel fortunate to be
healthy and spend time with ANY fun, kind, supportive people. I
think much of your perspective in live comes from your experiences
and the attitude of your parents or family members. My hope is that
as the world gets smaller, with the Internet making people more
accessible to each other and people moving around the world and
traveling more, prejudice in general will diminish as information
disseminates.
