One of the 'guests' on the show said "Slavery destroyed our family structure." I'm old enough to remember that the black family used to be really solid! As I recall, the black family used to have less divorce than the white families, back in the first half of the 20th century! It doesn't fit that slavery can be the culprit........more likely the introductioin of the 'Great Society' by Johnson that seemed to coincide with the decline of the black (and Hispanics to a lesser extent) family structures. We've got to make sure we don't make unfounded statements, nor accept them without consideration......otherwise we'd work on 'fixin' the wrong things.
I'm Asian. When I went to work in a design group at my company, an older Asian supervisor pulled me aside. He said something to me that is at the heart of all minority affects in America. He said, "When you look a little different, people will remember how you did......be it good or bad........so, do good!" Do YOU have images of some minority groups that are biased good? Your guest Malcolm was doing good, and suffered in his own community. I know almost all of the community has to "do good" , then the images and opportunities will change. It's a big task, but until then, blame those that "didn't do good" .
