Arriving in Indian oceans islands where the sun always set, warm welcome, cloves smell, and a cool equatorial breeze with pure Indian oceans smell, there is Zanzibar Islands on the sun regarded as Spices Islands.
Recently there has been a heat debate going on regarding where does Zanzibar stand? As Official known as Zanzibar is the part of Tanzania, a union which you can easily pronounce as United Republic of Tanzania or is the union between two countries Tanganyika and Zanzibar later on Tanganyika lost it status and form Zanzibar government with the Union Government.
Now the debate emerges again after several times put off, Tanzanian Prime minister mentioned in the Parliament that Zanzibar is not a state, it is in the shadow of Tanzania, a claim which has been criticized and objected by many if not all in Zanzibar.
I was born, grown and studied in Zanzibar, in school we never questioned about the history of Zanzibar or Tanzania, and if you try to make research you will find out that there are few historian teachers in Zanzibar or Tanzania and you will find none of them teach the history of Tanzania, only European history is taught, and another thing you will find out that when you enter Secondary school we have a Civic lesson but nothing is concerning Tanzania, the lesson last for four years but in exams even if you get A it doesn't help you to qualify for University studies, now I understand that if we were taught the history of our country everyone would awake and understand what is going on.
Zanzibar has its own president, Constitution and legislative, also it hold it own flag with national anthems, it is only today people they understand that it has lost its status as a country after the Prime minister speech, the prime minister vow to fight and said he will not be ready to see Zanzibar as a separate states during his term and vow to fight the enemy of the Union which he claimed that he is not ready to break or revert. But he forgot that a case was open at the high court before to demand the copy of the union article, which the answer was " the article has since disappeared, and he has to remember very well that what united was two people without getting opinions from the residents, so there is no reason for him not to revert and correct the problems of the union as now we live in democracy lets people decide what is best for their lives.
Nyerere he ever mentioned in his speech that Zanzibariis said that they are exploited while they have a government what about Tanganyika who doesn't have a government? So let us remove the government of Zanzibar and establish the government of Tanganyika and Tanzania! He was very clever to make Zanzibar depend on Tanganyika in everything while Zanzibar was well known country with the seat in United Nations and very stable before the union. I cannot say that I do not want to have a union but what I say we must have the union, which will benefit in both sides and it will be my pleasure to see the Tanganyika government exist, because without the Tanganyika government we lie to ourselves that we have equality, the good example is that 100% of donors grants to Tanzania, mainland gets 95.5% while Zanzibar get 4.5% while it is the union of two country, a good union is not to look how small is the country but to share the same amount of the income, recently Zanzibar government reject the statement from minister of state in the union government to say that Union government helps Zanzibar, while Zanzibar benefited from donors only and not any income from Mainland, at the same time all income from Zanzibar Port sent to Mainland. Union government elected a Zanzibari to answer all questions about the union so to be seen that a fellow Zanzibari was in charge of the union and doesn't not accept Zanzibar opinion even though he is from there and this happened when he said there must be I.D or permission either to travel between two country and he was called by Nyerere the same time to be in charge in mainland so he can stop demand the rights of Zanzibar but now he is the first to see Zanzibar disappear.
Nyerere`s constitution says Minerals are for Tanganyika but ocean and in case of oil is for Tanzania, the only things Zanzibar may have or may be it can be oil but in Mainland they are benefited with many thing including to be the third country in Africa for gold production in all those things Zanzibar gets nothing, now there is BANK OF TANZANIA but if you ask about Zanzibar shares, the answer is Zanzibar is neither a founder nor has share on it, so why then to call it BANK OF TANZANIA and not TANGANYIKA? You can not even find one office of United republic of Tanzania in Zanzibar and the president of Zanzibar when travel to mainland is regarded as a normal person while before he had a title as the vice president of Tanzania, it was proposed if the President of Tanzania comes from Zanzibar then the prime minister should come from Mainland and vice verse if President is from Tanganyika so does the prime minister to be from Zanzibar, now the union Government said this is only a proposal and what about the Union is there any document to prove its existence or it was only a proposal too, and why no one want to revert it? You will never find anything as a NATIONAL SYMBOLS in Zanzibar, for instance, airport, football ground or anything but in Tanganyika everything is national even if you compare them to Zanzibar you will find that Zanzibar are more better to them.
Every time TANESCO give threat to Zanzibar that they will cut electricity if they do not pay its debt, why they do not say they will cut the electricity in Dar es Salaam? We believe also may regions in Tanzania they do not pay but in Zanzibar is another case, so here we can see clearly that there is no equality.
Yesterday speaker of national assembly in Tanzania ban a debate on Zanzibar for what he said the matter has been discussed while the matter has not been so, only the prime minister said this will be worked out by two attorney of Zanzibar and Tanzania then why to be two and Tanganyika who will represent them in the discussion? This means that there is Tanganyika government and Zanzibar government but in blind eye you will see union and Zanzibar governments, this also is enough to show that Zanzibar is a state since the two have to meet.
We can ask ourselves which between the Articles of Union that formed the United Republic of Tanzania or the Union Constitution that reigned supreme. When prime minister was asked this in the parliament he replied "I think Hon Mnyaa is not wishing me any good, I didn't want to comment on this issue at length, I have learned from the media that there was a demo planned against me in Zanzibar,`` noted Pinda, before responding. So this means that when truth is spoken people are trying to run away. Responding to MPs` questions in the National Assembly last week, the Prime Minister was emphatic that there was no way Zanzibar could become a sovereign state within another sovereign state (the United Republic of Tanzania) because doing that would automatically break the April 26, 1964 Union between Tanganyika and Zanzibar. So what is his point in breaking the Union? How many countries have done so where are USSR-YUGOSLAVIA, SERBIA, MONTENEGRO, KOSSOVO, SENEGAMBIA, EAST AFRICAN COMMUNITY and many countries even Belgium there is a heat of the petition and the course is only languages division.
The prime minister has to understand that the union is not an iron, can be broken as well, and since there is no official agreement of the union and even if there is, it is still possible to revert it. Who united were not prophets and their decisions were not either Our-an or Bible which cannot be changed.
I would love to have Tanganyika, Zanzibar and united republic of Tanzania with 2 independent governments and if there will be problem will be only inside the union and not the country, so Zanzibar can retain it statehood, independent state with full control of its economic as well as Tanganyika.
