I was supposed to be Amy Nicole...BUT....the woman in the birthing suite next to my mother named her daughter just that name, so my mother went over the wall unique with Kyrie Michaelynn (Ki-ri-ay Mi-shay-lyn). My middle name is a combination of my mothers name and Michael, which is what I would have been named had I been a boy (this is back in 1980!). Growing up was hell because I had no nickname other than the cutsey ones my mom gave me and all of my friends, teachers, brothers and family members (but my mother) slaughtered it to pieces. For years I thought my name to be Kari da Berry because I couldn't pronounce it myself. I was called all kinds of hideous things, like Queery and Kai-ri, etc. When I was a teenager, I discovered that my name meant 'Lord' and that my last name was German for 'Of The World'. It is a lot to live up to! I always got out of doing dishes though by saying "I don't have to do dishes. I'm God," which irritated my mother to this day. I thought about changing my name but my husband nicknamed me Kiki (he cannot pronounce my name, either) and I like it. It suits me. So, our kids are going to have very simple names, two syllables and no weird spellings. I like unique, and I feel badly for my mother to be one of 30 Lindas in her high school, but seriously, I suffered during my youth. Now I like it. When I lived abroad it was great because there are many people who have studied Latin in Europe and my name came out perfectly for the entire year that I was there!
