Save Money, and Keep cool
I have seen alot on ireport about how to save money using this and
that, and how some product out there is going to solve the energy
crisis. Honestly the best thing you can do right now is to become
more Energy Efficient. That means doing things like changing your
lights to energy effcient halogen lights, installing tankless water
heaters, or solar water heaters if you can afford them.
In my opion there are four big things you can do that will
save money and you can get a tax rebate on at the end of the year.
1) Installing a Radiant Barrier, either foil sheeting or
aplying a radiant paint, But be carefull there are only a few
paints that qualify. I use Sherwin-Wiliams' E-Barrier. It doesnt
meet ASTCMI standards but it's a quality latex paint that isn't
harmfull to the inhabitants as it dries.
2) New insulation. The more insulation you have in your home
the better. The more heat you block from coming into your home the
less money you have to spend to cool your house. And in the winter
it traps the heat you bring in wich means you run your heater less.
3) Radiant Film on your windows, this blocks alot of heat and
its a cheap easy do it yourself project.
4) The last thing is to change out your lights to energy
effcient ones, youll save money on lightbulbs and onyour electric
bill.
There are alot of little things you can do and alot of
expesnive projects that will save more money, but I have found that
these save the most money with the littlest investment.
