VEEPSTAKES???

I don't know about you, yet I am tired of this word/phrase, veepstakes. I know this illegal, alien word is suppose to mean a vice president candidacy, yet where is the VEEP? Where is the STAKE? Where are the Stakes?
I know someone coined the term veep in 1949 as a definition for vice president. There is a St. Veep, yet by being a Saint he is no longer with us. Canada Dry made a soft drink named veep yet I never drank it or saw it on the store shelves.
Stake has several meanings including bet, wager, CHANCE, risk, hazzard, prop, jackpot and booty...Booty? Yes it means booty too. That's another story.
I'd just prefer the other spelling, STEAK. It's more tatseful and it smells good.
Stakes reminds me of sweepstakes so will I get on a knock on my front door by the Veepstakes Crew, telling me I just won a Bobble Head Obama or a McCain Band-Aid?
