For free WiFi, try to go through smaller airports. For example, Colorado Springs has free WiFi while Denver does not.

Be wary of pay-to-use WiFi systems which try to load something onto your computer, such as Boingo. First, it probably will not work with a PDA or SmartPhone. Second, it can cause problems with your computer. I had to do a system restore to my laptop after one experience with Boingo. Third, such accounts cannot be easily "shared" between devices. Instead, look for a system which simply uses a login, such as TMobile. These sytems work well with PDAs, SmartPhones, and laptops. Further, if you log off with your laptop and later want to use your PDA or SmartPhone on the same payment, it is no hassle.

Only attach to access points. NEVER join an "ad hoc" network unless you are 100% sure of who you are hooking up to. And make sure your system is not advertising an ad hoc network. That is, unless you really WANT someone to have wireless access to all your important information.

Set any Bluetooth devices to run hidden mode. Also make sure that any Bluetooth network services require a passkey.
