Hurricane Wilma gave us clear skies
August 8, 2008 | Miami, FL, Florida | Vetting explained
Those beautiful skies didn't come without a price. Our wedding was on Oct 29, 2005, a few days after hurricane Wilma.
My husband (then fiance) and I had postponed getting the marriage license till the very last minute. My sister and I drove down to Miami (where we now live) to stay over and get the marriage license on Monday morning with my fiance. But, a little something would not let this happen.
Hurricane Wilma struck, leaving everyone without out power and without gas.
It was already Wednesday and still no marriage license ( you need to have your license at least 3 days before your wedding day or else you can't get married). My sister (maid of honor) looked around for an open court house, the only one open was in Port Charlotte 3.5 hours away. So off we went.
Needless to say we made it on time and got our license.
During this run around time we unfortunately also had a death in our family.
Also, the tuxedo place was closed, therefore my husband and the bestmen had to drive to the next town to attempt to find Tuxedos in their size.
And the creme of the creme? During our wedding, my inlaw's apartment was up in flames (the kitchen).
This all sounds made up (oh yes and our cake baker canceled 3 days before the wedding)...however,
Our wedding day was a dream. Everything turned out beautifully. All thanks to our family and specially God, for a beautiful and perfect wedding day.
I guess we have a story for our kids.
