The Golan Heights As a piece of history (in a shell), the first partition of Palestine was done during the British mandate in 1920-1921. Unrealistically with the actual political and social reality on the ground and only with the British desire of antagonism against the Jewish population the area of the Golan Heights was given to the French, at that time the governing colonial power in a dusty colony named Syria. At the same time, all the territories east of river Jordan were incorporated into an entity named Transjordan, who later becomes the Kingdom of Jordan.
