The fireworks where cancelled due to flooding in Pike CO.
Louisiana MO.
{font:arial}{size:2}The
Louisiana Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors made a
decision to go
with the fireworks on the Saturday of Labor Day weekend, Aug.
30.
The event will feature a street dance and
fireworks.
If the fireworks have to be cancelled
due to some unforeseen happening, the board decided to pay an
additional storage fee and hold them until Fourth of July
2009.
The board had previously decided in a
special meeting to move the fireworks to Colorfest, but could
not work
out the logistics. Even Winterfest was considered as a
possible time
for the fireworks, but they would not be able to have the
full display
as pits must be dug for the larger fireworks. In addition,
some of the
board expressed doubt the crowd would be as large at
Winterfest
compared to Fourth of July.
In other business, a report on the
chamber's first farmer's market was given.
There were four vendors at the first
market on the riverfront, but more vendors are being invited to
attend.
The board has set a price of only $5 per
vendor per Saturday morning, which will go toward promoting the
event.
All those who have homegrown or
homecooked items to sell may call the chamber at 754-5921 to
reserve a
space or for more information.
The chamber has a manual for operating a
farmer's market, so there may be some additions to the market
as it
continues. For now, however, the market is open from 8 a.m.
to noon
each Saturday through Colorfest.
President Karen Stoeckley said
everything is in line for Colorfest. "According to Mona
(Brown), all
the entertainment is set, there will be lots of vendors and
they look
like they are ahead of where they were last year," Stoeckley
said.
Eileen Hoffman said homes are needed for
this year's Home Tour, which takes place at Colorfest.
She said the garden club takes care of
the tours and provides booties to protect floors if the
homeowner
wishes. They need at least six, but would prefer having eight
homes for
the tour.
"The only restriction is the home not be
for sale. We don't want to be in a real estate showing
situation,"
Hoffman said. "The house doesn't have to be a big house. I
think we may
even have a church on the tour this year."
There were five businesses who
participated in Christmas in July. Stoeckley said it was a
beginning for the first year.
There are 24 Louisiana memorial DVDs
available at the chamber, and they will be sold at
Colorfest.
The chamber has ordered its collectible
train car from Whittle Shortline Railroad to have available
for sale
with the collector's train set commemorating the city's 190th
year.
