iReport —

Remember the Cold War, I was born and raised around it. My father was career US Army, we were living in FRG when they put up the Berlin Wall. That was tense. When I was older I remember when the US went to DEF-CON 1, twice. For some Russians I know their day they thought the world was coming to an end was when the joint US NATO excercise(ReForGer) was began in Europe. The Soviets thought we were coming to chew bubble gum and kick ass, and we were fresh outa bubble gum. I still laugh they don't though, that is how real they thought it was.

Most of the Cold War for me holds alot of memories, good and bad. Most of what I was lucky enough to experience is still classified. Can't go around telling war stories, sure ends the fun.

When I look at the years after the Cold War ended, along with my employment, sure miss those days. Beat the heck out of the garbage jobs I have had since those days. Actually now I am older having had to work in crap service jobs and have had a chance to realize were it not for the Cold War/the Soviet Union I would have spent my life working at garbage dead end meaningless employment. Just getting a paycheck and little else.

Because of that Cold War I had opportunities I would never have had otherwise. Example I would go back to Vietnam for 10 months in an instant, compared to the last 10 years of my life. I did more living in that 10 months than I have in the last 10 years. That was just some of it.
