capacity. +
TAMPA, FL, August 20, 2008 - The official Second Life
Community Convention (SLCC) scheduled for September 5 - 7, 2008 in
Tampa, Florida has nearly reached maximum capacity, with over 800
attendees registered for the event. The annual convention features
three days of workshops and presentations that showcase the
activities of businesses, educators, and resident-run communities
in the 3D virtual world of Second Life®, created by San
Francisco based Linden Lab.
"We've actually reached the maximum capacity for
registrations, but some who registered haven't paid," said Peter
Lokke, financial administrator for SLCC, "The demand is so high at
this point, we're proceeding on a 'first-paid, first-served' basis.
I would encourage anyone who wants to attend to send in your
payment as soon as possible to guarantee you get a pass to the
convention."
Highlights of this year's convention include keynote
addresses from Mark Kingdon, CEO, and Philip Rosedale, Chairman of
the Board for Linden Lab and over fifty break-out sessions covering
everything from starting a new business in the virtual world to the
latest research from universities and colleges using Second Life.
Community-sponsored social events will also be held following the
daily programs.
"Virtual worlds and the emerging metaverse are hot topics in
many sectors," said Randal Moss, one of the lead organizers for the
convention, "SLCC is an opportunity for the pioneers and
entrepreneurs in these areas to come together and discuss what
works and what doesn't and where virtual worlds like Second Life
are headed. It's also an opportunity to celebrate the wonderfully
diverse communities that exist in Second Life."
