Do I have regrets? You bet.
I suppose this is a cliche, but as I look back on my life
(I'm approaching 63), it's not the things I did that I regret -
it's the things I didn't do.
That one statement pretty much sums up my philosophy on life.
I regret never asking the girI in my high school English class on a
date. I regret not spending more time with my kids when they were
younger. I regret the extra days and hours I chose to put in at
work rather than with my family. I regret the vacations we didn't
take because we thought we couldn't afford them, or I thought I
shouldn't take the time off from work.
There is nothing more important than family and good friends.
Riches and possessions can't begin to substitute. Anyone who says
differently is lying to you and to themselves. Sure, wealth may
give you more choices, but you can't buy a child's laugh, or a
loved one's caress.
I wouldn't presume to advise anyone to do anything, but I
WOULD advise everyone to do those things that you've always wanted
to do, but for which there was never 'time'. You don't get another
chance (as far as we know, anyway), so this is it. So, tell someone
you love, how important he/she is to you. If you have a dog - take
him for an extra walk around the block, and give him a treat when
you get home.
